I don’t no where to start. First, Thank you for everyone who has kept us in your prayers and thoughts, and to everyone who stopped in to check on us. We’re getting back to normal…I think.
Power came back on on Sunday and we didn’t have any major damage. We’re quite lucky and blessed. 2 streets over is a different story, uprooted trees fallen on houses and cars, flooding in the homes, fences down, yards torn to pieces. And then you come to our street and it looks like nothing is wrong.
It’s a weird feeling seeing all the devastation in Galveston and the surrounding areas. Those are the places we go to play, we’re not there all the time, once a season maybe. But the people who live there, that is their home, their livelihood. I feel torn up by it. And the million or so people still without power, thank the Lord for gracing us with cooler and drier air this week.
The grocery stores down on the corner are still packed. Packed with people looking for fresh food and ice. Packed with people waiting in their cars at the gas pumps, hoping they will get just a few gallons to run their generators.
The air around here smells of burning wood. I suppose the landowners are burning their debris, their fallen trees.
I hate to blog about something so sad. I know our community will be fine. I know that Galveston will revive. I pray for the people on the peninsula who lost absolutely everything.
For the next few months, I’d like to give a portion of my sales to the victims of Hurricane Ike. I would like the proceeds to go specifically to the victims, not to major organizations. If any of you know of any relief efforts, organizations that are local to the effected areas, please leave me a blog comment.
